Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - Back home under the lights of downtown Greenville, the Greenville Drive suffered a 6-3 loss to the Asheville Tourists on Tuesday night. Asheville's Chayce McDermott tossed six innings to secure the win while Shane Drohan lost after 5.2 innings pitched.
After four scoreless innings, Cristian Gonzalez hit a two out, solo homer in the top of the 5th to put Asheville on the board first.
They then added on three more runs from the bat of Colin Barber with a home run to center field in the top of the 6th.
In the bottom of the sixth, Matthew Lugo gave the Drive their first hit and run with one swing of the bat, sending the ball to the Green Monster and bringing Greenville within three runs of Asheville.
The Tourists halted the Drive's momentum in the top of the 8th inning with Quincy Hamilton coming home off a Michael Sandle single to center field. Chad Stevens brought Sandle home with another single to extend Asheville's lead to six over the Drive's one run.
Greenville wasn't done yet. Two runs were added to the scoreboard in the bottom of the 8th when Joe Davis and Nick Yorke were brought home off a Tyler McDonough triple.
The comeback fell short, however, and the Asheville Tourists took the first game of the series with a 6-3 win.
The Drive will play game two of the series tomorrow at 7:05.
