Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
ABERDEEN, MD - The Hudson Valley Renegades got a complete-game shutout from starting pitcher Easton McGee as the Renegades topped the Aberdeen Ironbirds 1-0 Tuesday evening from Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium. The game was called after five-and-a-half innings due to rain. The victory gave Hudson Valley a two-out-of-three series victory over the Aberdeen.
Centerfielder Michael Smith provided the only run of the contest. With one out in the first, he reached on an infield single to short, stole second, moved to third on a single to right from second baseman Tyler Frank, then scored on a wild pitch by Aberdeen starting pitcher Hector Guance to give the Renegades a 1-0 lead.
That was all Hudson Valley starting pitcher Easton McGee would need as he wound up going the distance, tossing five scoreless innings and allowing six hits. The right-hander also walked one and struck out four. Guance was the tough-luck loser for Aberdeen after allowing the lone run on only two hits. He allowed no walks and struck out five for Aberdeen.
The singles by Smith and Frank were the only hits of the game for the Renegades. The Ironbirds collected six hits including two from rightfielder Cody Roberts, who also notched a double for the only extra base-hit of the game.
The Renegades will wrap up their seven-game road trip when they head to Staten Island tomorrow to take on the Yankees in a single-game. First-pitch slated for 7:00. Right-hander Paul Campbell (2-0, 1.17 ERA) will toe the rubber for Hudson Valley against fellow righty Harold Cortijo (0-0, 3.12 ERA) for Staten Island.
Hudson Valley returns home on July 5th when they open a brief two-game series and homestand against the Staten Island Yankees. Both games start at 7:05 and will include a postgame fireworks show. Tickets can be purchased online at hvrenegades.com or by calling the ticket office at 845-838-0094.
