Batavia Muckdogs News Release
Today's Game- Today Batavia looks to win their second series of the season, and bounce back from last night's loss to the West Virginia Black Bears. Batavia goes on the road tomorrow to Pinckney Division leader, Mahoning Valley.
That was yesterday- Batavia dropped their fourth loss in five games. The Muckdogs were able to put up a run in the bottom of the first inning, but nothing afterwards. West Virginia scored three in the top of the fourth off Alberto Guerrero, who only went 3.2 innings into the game. Batavia tied their season-low in runs and hits in the game, with one and five, respectively.
Offense Overload- In nine of the first 16 games, Batavia has managed to score at least six runs in each of those contests. Batavia has one of the top scorers in the league, with Jerar Encarnacion sitting in first place with 15 runs scored, Demetrius Sims in third with 13, and Sean Reynolds in fourth with 12 runs.
Missing Encarnacion- The Muckdogs' offense has been missing Jerar Encarnacion has been on a tear to start off the season. On his current eleven game hit streak to open the year, he's hitting .479. Despite being down with injury, he's still second in the league in hits (23). He's second in doubles (6), fourth in extra base hits (7) and sits atop the league with his .479 average and second with his .500 OBP. He also has the most defensive assists by any outfielder in the league with three, all coming on June 19th against West Virginia. Batavia is 1-4 since Encarnacion left the lineup.
Beginning from behind- The Muckdogs have had trouble with giving up early leads in ballgames. Batavia has trailed after the fifth inning on ten different occasions so far this season, and have gone 2-8 in those contests.
Familiar foes- The Black Bears and the Muckdogs will meet eight more times this season after today's matchup. The next meeting arrives on August 5th-7th in Morgantown.
Recent Roster Action- On July 2nd, RHP Chad Martin was released.
Marlins Update- Miami walked off the Tampa Bay Rays last night in ten innings. JT Realmuto went yard for one of his two hits in the game. Starlin Castro went 4-4 in the game. Yadiel Rivera drove in former Muckdog Brian Anderson in the tenth inning to give Miami the 3-2 win.
