TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The fourth of 10 meetings and the third of five here. âGades are 2-1 vs. the Express, 1-1 at home. Brad Church has five points vs. the Express. Jason Jaffray has four vs. the âGades. Richmond is in a third place tie with Reading, one point ahead of Roanoke in the Northeast Division. Both clubs are playing the first of three games in three nights.
LAST ACTION: The âGades lost 3-2 at Greensboro in a shootout last Saturday. Richmond jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Peter Hogan and Justin Plamondon. The Generals rallied back with one in the first and one in the third to force OT. The two clubs combined for 100 shots on goal (60-40 in favor of the Generals). Roanoke lost to Trenton 4-0 at home Sunday despite out-shooting the Titans 42-33. Trenton snapped a scoreless tie with two goals in the second period and blew it open with two more in the third.
âGADES NOTES: Richmond has not lost back to back home games. The Renegades are winless in their last three games, equaling their longest winless streak of the season. Richmond did snap a three game road regulation loosing streak with a 3-2 shootout loss at Greensboro Saturday. The âGades five game home win streak ended Friday in a 6-3 loss to Greensboro. The âGades ended an 0-40 power play slump with a power play goal Friday. Jon Zion returned from a call-up to Cincinnati of the AHL last Friday. Jayme Filipowicz (St. John) and Brad Church (Cleveland) remain on AHL call-ups. Kerry Ellis-Toddington became the fifth âGade to earn a AHL call-up when he was summoned to Cincinnati following Saturday's game. He played in one game with the Ducks and returned to Richmond. David Brosseau (out five games) and Milt Mastad (out 13 games) returned from injuries Friday. Ryan Van Buskirk missed both games last week due to a concussion. The âGades had three players (Lars Pettersen, Richard Pitirri, and Leon Hayward) suspended by the ECHL for their actions in the third period vs. Greensboro Friday. Richmond played Saturday's game against the Generals with only 13 skaters due to injuries, call-ups, and suspensions. The âGades have played six of their last seven games short-benched. The 59 PIM racked up by the âGades Friday is a club season high. The âGades allowed 60 shots Saturday, the most since Toledo fired 62 at the âGades last January. The âGades and Generals combined for 100 shots Saturday. Marc Magliarditi made 58 saves, the most by a âGades goaltender since Curtis Cruickshank's 59 vs. Toledo last year. Magliarditi stopped a penalty shot (the first in a âGades game this season) from Greensboro's Mark Turner in overtime Saturday. He also picked up the first point by a Renegade goaltender this season with an assist. Peter Hogan has points in three straight games. The âGades had three players picked for January's ECHL All Star Game: Jamie Herrington, Jon Zion, and Dan Lombard. Starting Thursday the âGades play 20 games in 38 days. Richmond suffered their first overtime/shootout loss of the year in eight tries Saturday at Greensboro. The âGades activated Jonathan St. Louis from IR today and placed Ryan Van Buskirk on 7-Day IR.
