Renegades Drop Third in a Row to the Spinners with 2-1 Loss

FISHKILL, N.Y. (August 6, 2009) - The Renegades (24-24) drop their third game in a row falling to the Lowell Spinners (26-21), 2-1, Thursday night at Dutchess Stadium in front of a sellout crowd of 4,848. Devin Fuller recorded his best outing of the season as he threw five innings of two-hit shutout baseball but did not factor into the decision.

Lowell's starter, southpaw Jose Alvarez recorded his fifth win of the season holding the Renegades scoreless over six innings. Bladimir Florentino was tagged for the loss after he allowed two runs, on four hits in three innings. The loss is Florentino's second of the season.

The Spinners struck first notching two runs in the visiting half of the sixth. With runners on second and third and two outs the Spinners' Drew Hedman drove a Florentino offering into center field for a bases clearing double. Hedman's double brought the score to 2-0 and gave the Spinners the lead, a lead they would not relinquish for the rest of the game.

Hudson Valley broke through the Spinners pitching in the home half of the seventh cutting Lowell's lead in half. Brett Nommensen greeted the new reliever, Charle Rosario, with a triple down the right-field line. Nommensen scored one batter later on an Elias Otero single that brought the score to 2-1, in favor of the Spinners. The triple was Nommensen's first of the year.

Nommensen's run would be the only offense the Renegades could muster up as they were unable to plate another run in the game. Spinners' closer Dennis Neuman came into the game in the bottom of the ninth and faced four Renegades on his way to his fourth save of the year.

The Renegades take on the State College Spikes (Pittsburgh Pirates affiliate) in a three-game series starting tomorrow at Duthcess Stadium. The Spikes will be giving the nod to righty Jason Erickson (1-1, 3.09) and the Renegades will be countering with Southpaw Kyle Lobstein (1-3, 3.47). First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
