Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

Lakewood, N.J. - Led by a strong pitching performance, the Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Jersey Shore BlueClaws 7-1 on Thursday night at ShoreTown Ballpark.

Trey Sweeney gave the Renegades the lead with an RBI double in the top of the third of Dominic Pipkin. That kicked off a four-run rally for Hudson Valley, capped off by a two-run home run by Spencer Henson.

That was all the support Blas Castaño needed, as he turned in another strong start. The right-hander allowed one run on five hits in 6.0 innings, walking two and striking out eight to tie his season high. He lowered his team-leading ERA to 3.06 on the season.

Castaño (3-6) completed six innings for his fifth consecutive start, a run including four quality starts. The lone blemish against him was an RBI single by Freylin Minyety in the bottom of the fifth.

The Renegades tacked on two more in the top of the seventh, when Everson Pereira blooped a two-run double into center that was lost in the twilight by Ethan Wilson to extend the advantage to 6-1. The Gades added a run in the ninth on a Pereira single off Aidan Anderson.

Pereira finished 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and three runs batted in. It was his second straight game with three RBIs.

Ryan Miller and Jhonatan Muñoz combined for 3.0 perfect innings out of the bullpen to close out the win. Castaño, Miller and Muñoz set down the final 10 BlueClaws batters of the game, and 12 of the final 13.

Hudson Valley has won five straight games, tying the longest winning streak of the season for the team.

The Renegades continue their series with the BlueClaws on Friday night at ShoreTown Ballpark. The Renegades send RHP Beck Way (3-4, 3.81) to the mound, while the BlueClaws counter with RHP Mick Abel (5-6, 3.82). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., with coverage beginning at 6:45 on the Renegades Baseball Network.
