Bowling Green, Ky. - For a second consecutive night, the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Class-A/Tampa Bay Rays) rallied from a late deficit to beat the West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit Tigers). Trailing 4-3 with two outs in the eighth, Elias Torres doubled home two runs to seal the three-game sweep of the Whitecaps, 5-4. Bowling Green secured victory in game two Wednesday night on a walk-off home run.

The bottom of the eighth began with a lead-off single by Ty Young. Juniel Querecuto then seemed to be willing to bunt Young over, but when he worked a hitter's count, he slapped a single of his own to put runners at first and second with nobody out. Two harmless fly balls were induced by Whitecaps reliever Montreal Robertson, but Elias Torres came through with the big two-out hit. Down in the count, he clubbed a fastball into the left-center field gap to plate both Young and Querecuto to complete the comeback and give Bowling Green the 5-4 lead.

Colton Reavis entered the game in the ninth, and despite allowing a one-out single, worked a quiet ninth inning to earn his team-leading sixth save of the season. Stone Speer (5-1) earned the win in relief of Ben Griset, who worked into the sixth inning as Bowling Green's starter.

West Michigan took an early lead in the second with one run. Jeff Holm reached on a bunt single, and he would later advance home on a sacrifice fly by Francisco Contreras. Their lead was short, as the Hot Rods tied it in the bottom of the third with Kean Wong's sacrifice fly to right field.

Bowling Green took a brief lead in the bottom of the fourth. Young and Querecuto reached to start the frame, and were bunted over by Pat Blair. Young and Querecuto would score when Spencer Edwards dropped a two-run single into center field, giving the Hot Rods the 3-1 advantage.

The Whitecaps accounted for the first comeback of the night, as they re-took the lead with three in the sixth. Holm singled home Wynton Bernard. Later on in the frame, a wild pitch allowed Holm to score, and a throwing error by catcher Armando Araiza let Grayson Greiner cross to give the Whitecaps the 4-3 lead. The rally proved to be just the setup for Bowling Green's dramatic win later in the evening.

Robertson (4-5) allowed the two runs in the eighth and was handed the loss out of the Whitecaps' bullpen.

Fresh off their three-game sweep of West Michigan, the Hot Rods will welcome in the Lansing Lugnuts (Toronto Blue Jays) on Friday night for a four-game series at Bowling Green Ballpark. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. CT, and it will be Fireworks Friday presented by WBKO and All Hit WUHU - 107.1. Gates open at 6 p.m. CT., and drink specials start right away.
