
Lugnuts strand chances in 5-4 loss to Captains

EASTLAKE, OH - The Lake County Captains (11-9, 38-52) held on for a 5-4 win over the Lansing Lugnuts (10-10, 42-47) to take the series finale on Thursday night at Classic Park.
The Lugnuts hit just 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position, stranding nine runners on base for the night.
Trailing 2-0 in the fourth, third baseman Matt Dean got the Lugnuts on the board with a solo home run off of Lake County starter Caleb Hamrick (Win, 3-4).
Lansing left fielder David Harris hit a solo home run in the fifth to tie the game 2-2, but Lansing starter Shane Dawson (Loss, 2-5) surrendered a three-run home run to Nellie Rodriguez that put the Captains ahead 5-2.
After an RBI groundout by Dawel Lugo in the sixth, Dean hooked an RBI double in the seventh to bring the Lugnuts within one.
For the second straight night, Lake County reliever Trevor Frank (Save, 8) pitched a perfect ninth inning to close out the win.
Dean finished the night 2-for-5 for three RBIs.
Lansing opens a four-game road series with Bowling Green on Friday night with lefty Brent Powers (2-2, 6.64) on the mound. Lefty Chris Kirsch (3-6, 3.19) will pitch for the Hot Rods.
