Captains Escape with 5-4 Win

Lake County Captains News Release


(Eastlake, OH)- Nellie Rodriguez blasted his 15th homerun of the season way over the wall in left center field and the Captains went on to beat Lansing 5-4. Rodriguez's homer was a three-run shot and the Captains led 5-2 after five innings. Rodriguez now has 47 RBIs on the season. The Captains have homered in 10 straight games and have won back-to-back contests.

Lake County took the early lead with an RBI single by Eric Haase in the opening frame and added a sacrifice fly in the second inning by Ivan Castillo to extend the lead to 2-0. For Haase it was RBI number 32 and Castillo has plated eight.

Lansing came back to even the score. In the top of the fourth inning, Matt Dean hit his seventh homerun of the season and the Lugnuts were on the board trailing 2-1. David Harris followed suit and smacked a solo homer, his third of the season, in the top of the fifth inning and the score was evened at 2-2.

In the sixth inning, Lansing scored another run in the top of the sixth inning. Mitch Nay led off with a double and moved to third on a grounder and scored on a ground ball out. The score was 5-3 Captains. Lansing scored another run in the top of the seventh inning when Matt Dean doubled to left field and knocked in the run to cut the lead to 5-4.

RHP Caleb Hamrick (3-4) started the game for the Captains and earned the win. Hamrick allowed three earned runs, on five hits, and one walk and he fanned one. Alexis Paredes pitched two and one third innings of relief and allowed four hits, and one earned run. Carlos Melo pitched one scoreless inning of relief. Trevor Frank pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his eighth save of the season.

LHP Shawn Dawson (2-5) started for Lansing and took the loss. Dawson pitched four and one third innings and allowed seven hits, and five earned runs. Dawson walked two and fanned four. Dawson allowed one homer. Matt Dermody has pitched three and one third innings and allowed two hits and fanned three. Brady Dragmire pitched one third of an inning.

The Captains will continue a seven game home stand on Friday night. The Captains will send RHP Dace Kime (4-10, 4.87) to the mound for the start. The Great Lakes Loons will be in town and will start RHP Greg Harris (6-5, 4.91). First pitch is at 7:00 PM from Classic Park in Eastlake.

Friday's game is a Fireworks Friday Night presented by Universal Windows Direct with the fireworks show featuring a Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin soundtrack to coincide with the annual Italian Heritage Night.

The Captains will offer traditional Italian fare for sale, including Cavatelli, Italian Sausage and Connolis. There will be a pre-game bocce ball tournament and the Italian National Anthem will be sung prior to the game.
