Reign Rally over Wranglers for 2-1 Win

LAS VEGAS, NV - The Ontario Reign (2-0-0-0), back-to-back Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, ended the pre-season with a 2-1 come from behind victory over the Las Vegas Wranglers at Orleans Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The Reign fell behind in the first period as former Reign forward Geoff Irwin converted a Reign cross-checking penalty to a power-play goal at 11:25 putting the Wranglers up 1-0. Ontario was held to eight shots on goal through the frame.
Tables turned in the second period as Ontario scored two unanswered goals and Mathias Niederberger kept the Wranglers out of the net with some tremendous saves. Brodie Sheahan and rookie forward Philippe Maillet kept great control of the puck in the Las Vegas zone and Sheahan was able to capitalize on a wraparound chance to beat Travis Fullerton. Just 2:02 later, Mathias Joggi earned his first goal of the pre-season as he poked the puck and watched it trickle past Fullerton to give the Reign a 2-1 lead.
The pressure didn't give up in the third period with Las Vegas outshooting Ontario 15-10 in the final 20 minutes. The physical play stepped up as well with the two clubs racking up a combined 50 penalty minutes in the final frame.
Niederberger kept the Reign undefeated in the pre-season stopping 37 of 38 shots for the win; Fullerton took the loss with 28 saves on 30 shots.
