Seattle Reign FC News Release
WASHINGTON, DC - August 10, 2013 - Seattle Reign FC are in DC to play the Washington Spirit in their final match of a three-game road trip. The match kicks off today at 4 p.m. PT and will be nationally televised on the FOX Soccer Channel.
Seattle (5-12-3, 18 pts.) will be looking to bounce back after losses against Chicago and Western New York - Seattle's first back-to-back losses in two months. U.S. international Hope Solo stopped eight shots in the match and now ranks fourth in the NWSL with 74 saves despite having played at least four few games than the three goalkeepers ahead of her on the leaderboard. Fellow U.S. Women's National Team member Megan Rapinoe had three shots (two on goal) while playing the full 90 minutes, but did not score for the second consecutive match after starting her NWSL career with four goals in her first eight games.
The loss against Western New York Flash puts Seattle's record at 5-3-2 over the last 10 matches, which is still the second-best record in the National Women's Soccer League over that stretch of games, behind only first-place FC Kansas City, who managed an unbeaten streak of 6-0-4.
A win against the Washington Spirit (2-14-4, 10 pts.) would continue a strong second half of the season for Reign FC. The match against the Spirit is the third and final meeting of the season between the two teams - which have split the two previous encounters - including a 2-1 victory for Reign FC on July 14 in the first nationally televised NWSL Game of the Week.
The match against the Washington Spirit will be aired live at 4 p.m. PT on FOX Soccer Channel. There will be no live stream of the match on YouTube due to the nationally televised broadcast.
Seattle will return home for their final match of the season against Portland Thorns FC on Saturday, August 17 at 8 p.m. at the Moda Health Pitch at Starfire Stadium. Tickets to the match are extremely limited, but are currently available for purchase at www.ReignFC.com.
