Seattle Reign FC News Release
SEATTLE, WA - Seattle Reign FC and the Austen Everett Foundation are excited to announce a partnership benefiting the patients at Seattle Children's Hospital in their fight against cancer.
The purpose of the partnership and mission of the Austen Everett Foundation (AEF) is to provide adolescent and young adult cancer patients with a professional sport experience to inspire and empower them in their battle against cancer.
Seattle Reign FC and AEF have created the ultimate game day experience for patients of the Seattle Children's Hospital by giving the children the opportunity to be honorary captains at each home game. Being an honorary captain includes receiving a Seattle Reign FC shirt, joining the team for pre-game warm-ups, participating in the coin toss, and a VIP experience for their family and friends. The patient will also get to participate in a team practice the day before the game to get the experience of being a professional soccer player.
Founded in 2009, AEF was created to improve the lives of children battling cancer by creating an alliance with collegiate and professional sport organizations in the community.
Everett, once a young female athlete, founded the organization while she was battling cancer. She was a student athlete at the University of Miami, playing goalkeeper for the Hurricanes Women's Soccer team. Everett valued the importance athletics and teamwork can have in the fight against cancer. Her dream was to show children that cancer should not define who they are.
AEF has also partnered with Orlando City soccer, a USL men's Pro team, in addition to the University of Miami to give patients the experience of being a top-level athlete. Each event is uniquely tailored to each child to provide the most unforgettable memory Seattle Reign FC is excited to provide the patients of Seattle Children's Hospital the opportunity to be a part of a professional soccer team and meet the inspiring women of the National Women's Soccer League.
