The Week in Review

December 4th /07- Regina Pats -2 vs Brandon Wheat Kings-5

The Regina Pats and Brandon Wheat Kings entered Tuesday night's game against each other in a tie for 1st place in East division. It would be the Wheaties that would come out of the gate hard as they would score four unanswered goals in the 1st period and lead the game 4-0 after one period of play. The Wheat Kings would make it 5-0 mid way through the 2nd period, and take that lead to the dressing room after two. In the 3rd the Pats would get goals from captain Logan Pyett (14) and forward Jared Jagow (8) but it would not be enough as the Wheat Kings went on to defeat the Pats by a score of 5-2. Linden Rowat started the game for the Pats but was yanked midway through the first. Jeff Bosch entered the game and made 19 saves on 21 shots. The Pats powerplay went 1 for 4, while the Wheaties went 1 for 5 with the mad advantage.

December 6th /07- Regina Pats - 6 @ Edmonton Oil Kings-3

The Regina Pats went into Thursday night's contest against the Edmonton Oil Kings looking to bounce back from a 5-2 loss Tuesday night against the Brandon Wheat Kings. The Pats did just that scoring 4 unanswered goals in the 3rd period going on to a 6-3 win in front of 4698 fans at Rexall Place. Juraj Valach (5) led the way for the Pats scoring 2 goals and adding 1 assist, other Pats goal scorers included Jared Jagow (9), Matt Strueby (3), Matt Delahey (1) and Jordan Eberle (23). Linden Rowat kicked out 27 shots in the win for the Pats who were outshot 30-26 by the Oil Kings. The Pats powerplay was dynamite scoring 3 goals on 5 opportunities while the Oil Kings went 0 for 6 with the man advantage.

December 7th /07- Regina Pats - 1 @ Red Deer Rebels -4

The Red Deer Rebels used four unanswered goals in the 3rd period Friday night to defeat the Regina Pats 4-1. The Pats carried a 1-0 lead into the 3rd period due to Juraj Valach (6) who scored his 3rd goal in two games. The Rebels received goals from two goals from captain Brandon Sutter, while Brennan Sonne and Cass Mappin added singles, in what was the Rebels 9th win of the season. Jeff Bosch suffered his 4th loss of the season in net, while James Reimer picked up the win for the Rebels. The Pats were 0 for 5 on the powerplay while the Rebels were 0 for 4.

December 8th /07- Regina Pats - 4 vs Kelowna Rockets -3

Jordan Eberle's 24th goal of the season ended up being the winner as the Regina Pats defeated the Kelowna Rockets 4-3 on Sunday afternoon. The Pats got other goals from Garrett Mitchell (3), Kirt Hill (5) and Juraj Valach (7) in the win that moves them back into a 1st place tie with the Brandon Wheat Kings. Linden Rowat picked up the win in net kicking out 20 of 23 shots, while Kristofer Westblom was tagged with the loss. The Pats special teams got the job done as they went 1 for 6 with the man advantage, as well as striking shorthanded, while the Rockets went 1 for 7 with the powerplay.

Pats European defencemen Juraj Valach had a stand out game Thursday night in Edmonton scoring 2 powerplay goals and adding 1 assist... Valach the native of Zvolen, Slovakia continued his scoring streak Friday night scoring the only goal in the 4-1 loss in Red Deer, then adding a goal in Sunday's win over the Kelowna Rockets giving him 4 goals in the last 3 games... Valach who came to the Pats early this season in a trade with the Vancouver Giants and has contributed 7 goals and 13 assists in 34 games so far this season ...

Pats Lose Coach and Captain to World Junior Team Try Outs

Head Coach Curtis Hunt will once again be joining the Canadian National Junior team this December. Team Canada's camp starts today, so Hunt's last game was yesterday against the Kelowna Rocktets. Hunt will miss up to 9 games as Team Canada goes for their fourth straight Gold medal.

The Pats will also lose their captain Logan Pyett. Pyett who has been a leader all season for the Pats currently sits in 5th place in WHL defencemen scoring with 13 goals and 15 assists. Pyett has a very good chance of cracking this year team as he played a big role on Team Canada during the Canada/Russia Super Series.

NHL Preliminary Draft Rankings:

The National Hockey League released its preliminary rankings for the 2008 Entry Draft this week, with three Regina Pats making the grade. Pats defencemen ,Colten Teubert is ranked #3, while forward Jordan Eberle is #8 and Matt Delahey is # 16.

The top ranked WHL player is Everett Silvertips forward Kyle Beach.

Pats Send 2 to World Under 17 Challenge

The Regina Pats will send two players to the World Under 17 Challenge in London, Ontario. Forward Garrett Mitchell and defencemen Alex Pym will play for team Western this upcoming December. The two players will be playing games from December 29th until January 4th; missing three of the Pats games.

Alumni Spot Light

Former Regina Pat Mike Sillinger scored the overtime winner to lead the New York Islanders over the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 in NHL action on Saturday. The goal was the sixth of the season and eleventh point for Sillinger who has appeared in 28 games this year.

In the System

The Regina Pats prospect Jordan Weal continues to light up the British Columbia Major Midget League. Weal the 4th round Bantam pick of the Pats in the 2007, has compiled 17 goals and 34 assists in 22 games, that is good enough for the league lead. Weal who dressed for 3 games in a Pats jerseys, recorded 1 assist in his game in the WHL.
