Regina Pats News Release
Downtown Regina is continually growing in new and exciting directions. Today, the Regina Downtown Business Improvement District (RDBID) is proud to announce that they are growing their partnership with the Regina Pats to meet community demands for increased programming and services in the heart of our city. Through a ten-year commitment to the downtown community, the Regina Pats will help Regina residents and tourists engage with the downtown neighborhood in unprecedented ways through the newly constructed Visitor Service Pavilion. The Visitor Service Pavilion is situated within the City Square Plaza, already well known and loved by our community as a gathering place for those seeking new experiences.
"On behalf of the RDBID Board of Directors, we are so pleased to collaborate with a strong partner like the Regina Pats who share our passion in providing community services and programming that support the needs of both visitors to Regina, as well as Regina residents," said Aaron Murray, Chair of the Regina Downtown Business Improvement Board of Directors. "This partnership will help RDBID develop robust, year round activities and programs accessible to all Regina residents from diverse backgrounds. We are very thankful to the Regina Pats for their commitment and the positive impact it will have on our downtown community."
Plans are in place for The Visitor Services Pavilion, currently under construction, to be officially named the Regina Pats Visitor Service Pavilion. The Pavilion will be used as a home base for Summer in the Square downtown programming such as Yoga in the Park, Zumba on the Plaza, Vibes Under the Stars, Salsa on the Plaza, Work Outside the Box, Exploration Days that runs from June to August, as well as The Rink at the City Square Plaza which operates in the winter. Previous years have seen more than 25,000 participants annually attend these activities and programs. The Pavilion will allow RDBID to continue to enhance the reach of these opportunities to explore arts, culture, and sport in our city centre. A grand opening for the Regina Pats Visitor Services Pavilion will be held on July, 2019.
"We are very excited about this partnership," said Pats President Todd Lumbard. "The Regina Pats Visitors Services Pavilion will be a place to reach and engage people in the community, which is a big part of what we do as an organization. The Regina Pats would like to thank the Regina Downtown Business Improvement District for their work on this project and we look forward to the official opening in early July."
"One of the mandates of RDBID is to improve the quality of life for the downtown community. Through this partnership with the Regina Pats, our activities, programs and services will continue to be accessible for all Regina citizens. Summer in the Square, presented by the Regina Pats, will truly be a benefit to Downtown and all of Regina," said Judith Veresuk, Executive Director of Regina Downtown Business Improvement District. Summer in the Square Programming begins on June 4, 2019.
Summer in the Square, presented by the Regina Pats, will include:
Expansion of programs offered in the evening from two nights to four.
RDBID will be able to offer multiple community programs six days a week.
Expansion of existing programs - Work Outside the Box, offered by the Queen City Collective, will be offered two days a week.
Summer in in the Square will offer over 500 hours of free community programming, an increase of 10% from 2018.
New programs and partners are excited to collaborate with RDBID. In 2019, for example, we are happy to announce the launch of Vibes Under the Stars, a series of family-friendly hip-hop dance lessons the City Square Plaza led by the Family Business Dance Crew.
In support of our local food truck members, the new Mobile Eats program will run during lunch hours Thursdays and Fridays
"We are thrilled to be able to expand our Work Outside the Box activation this summer," said Christina Carlson, Owner, Queen City Collective. "We received such an enthusiastic response to Work Outside the Box in 2018, it made sense to try and offer more opportunities for the community to collaborate and work in the fresh air".
