Reed Breaks K Mark in 'Stormers Win

Lancaster Stormers News Release

Nate Reed allowed six hits in five innings Tuesday evening while his four strikeouts made him the all-time career leader for the Lancaster Barnstormers as Lancaster topped the Road Warriors, 6-1.

Reed (10-3) avoided the walk but the lefty was pulled after five innings and 87 pitches to get the bullpen some work.

His second strikeout of the night, a swinging third strike by left fielder Daniel Aldrich on a pitch in the dirt was Reed's 326th in a Barnstormers jersey, breaking the previous mark set by current manager Ross Peeples over his 10-year stay on the Lancaster roster.

Lancaster once again gave Reed plenty of backing. The Barnstormers struck for two in the first off Mike Lee (2-9) on a two-out RBI single by Jimmy Paredes and double smashed inside the first base bag by K.C. Hobson.

The speedsters combined to produce a third run in the home second. With one out, Darian Sandford beat out a roller to the second baseman Melvin Rodriguez and stole second. Rico Noel lined a single to left, and Sandford came in safely despite a strong throw from Aldrich.

In the third, the Barnstormers pieced together four consecutive singles. Paredes led off with a looper into right center, and Ryan Casteel nailed a base hit into center. Hobson ripped a liner into right to load the bases. Trayvon Robinson made it 4-0 with a ground single into right. A fifth run scored on a broken bat grounder by Anderson De La Rosa.

Aldrich, who doubled to lead off the fifth, scored on a Matt Hibbert single into center to produce the only run for the Road Warriors, who banged out nine hits. The biggest other threat for the visitors came in the seventh as Aldrich doubled, and Hibbert walked. Reliever Garrett Granitz escaped the inning when Osvaldo Martinez flied to left on a full count pitch.

Paredes and Sandford each finished the night with three hits for Lancaster.

The series concludes on Wednesday evening with right-hander Brooks Hall (8-3) making the start for Lancaster against righty Raul Rivera-Alicea (4-11). Fans may tune into BRC-11 or the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting at 7:00.

NOTES: Paredes has 14 hits in his last 23 at bats to boost his overall average to .365...Sandford stole his 58th base of the year...The center fielder was also 3-for-4 and is hitting .400 in his last 17 games...Reed remained tied with York's Mitch Atkins for the league lead in wins...Atkins recorded his 10th in a 4-1 win over New Britain...The Barnstormers now own a 7 1/2 game wild card lead over New Britain and an eight-game lead over York.
