Florence RedWolves News Release

FLORENCE, S.C.- The RedWolves are able to split the difference with the Blowfish in a June 22nd, Monday double header at Sparrow Stadium, as Lexington County took game one (7-0), and Florence dominating the second game from the mound (1-0).

After the game had been called due to weather in the top of the fourth inning with nobody on and two outs, on July 9th, the (14-7) Florence RedWolves were finally able to resume that game with their rivals, the (10-10) Lexington County Blowfish.

Lexington County's, Canaan Cropper (University of South Carolina) was able to finish exactly what he started 13 days prior. When the game picked up in the top of the fourth, Cropper kept it dialed in. He held the RedWolves to two hits the entire ballgame, as the right-handed Salisbury, Maryland native, threw a three-hit shutout against the Florence RedWolves in the 7-0 victory.

Cropper went all nine innings giving up just three hits, no runs, two walks, and five strikeouts; moving on to earning his second win (2-1).

Lexington County went on to take the 7-0 win in game one of the double header.

Daniel Barfield for Florence moves to (2-1) on the season with the loss, going seven innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on nine hits, five walks, and four strikeouts.

Game two of the double header featured a spectacular pitching performance from the RedWolves' second lefty ace, James Walsh (Randolph Macon). Walsh commanded the strike zone all night, striking out a season high 11 batters in another timely 1-0 win. Walsh now (1-0) got the complete game shutout, two hits, no runs, no walks, and 11 strikeouts.

The RedWolves were able to get the best of Lexington County's, Taylor Widener (University of South Carolina) in the bottom of the sixth, at the perfect time. Chris Adams (Lee University) got the inning going with a single into center, stole second, and advanced to third on a Chaz Pal (USC-Aiken) single into right. Ben Holland then come to the plate and laid down the best possible bunt for the squeeze play, scoring Adams for Holland's first sacrifice bunt on the season.

Walsh capped off the night with an exclamation point, striking out Howard Joe (Mercer) for his eleventh K on the night.

The Florence RedWolves improve to (15-8) on the season with a one game lead still in tact over the Gastonia Grizzlies.

Florence will take on the Blowfish two more times this week, Tuesday and Thursday in Lexington, starting a long streak of away games, before returning to Sparrow Stadium June 30th.
