Reds top Miracle in first of road trip

SARASOTA, FL (May 27, 2006) - If the Fort Myers Miracle hope to win the Western Division in the first half they are going to have to do it on the road. Starting a string of 14 of 19 on the road the Miracle were beaten by the Sarasota Reds 8-3 on Saturday evening at Ed Smith Stadium.

Miracle starter Kyle Aselton had his shortest outing of the season lasting just two innings as the Reds roughed him up for four runs. With two outs in the first Aselton gave up a single to Adam Rosales, walked Jay Garthwaite and then gave up an RBI single to Jeremiah Piepkorn.

In the second Aselton started off with a walk to Drew Anderson and followed that with a single to John Purdom. With one out Brandon Roberts and Paul Janish had back-to-back RBI singles. Rosales completed the scoring with an RBI groundout. Aselton allowed four runs on five hits while walking two and striking out four in two innings.

Josh Hill pitched well out of relief, but ran out of gas in his fourth inning out of the pen as two errors contributed to four runs. With runners at first and second and one out Roberts singled to center which scored Purdom and a throwing error by Justin Arneson allowed Trevor Lawhorn to score. With runners at second and third and two out a fielding error by Trevor Plouffe allowed two runs to score.

The Miracle finally got on the board in the seventh when Brock Peterson led off with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. A sac fly by Jeremy Pickrel made it 8-1.

The Miracle scored two in the eighth on a two run double by Pickrel who finished 3-3 with a double, sac fly and three RBI. Kyle Geiger also collected three this going 3-5.

The same two teams meet Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at Ed Smith Stadium. The Miracle send LHP Justin Jones (0-0, 1.42) to the hill against Reds RHP Richard Gardner (0-0, 5.14).
