August 29, 2017 - American Association (AA)
Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, ND - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (53-40), behind a record-setting night from Tyler Alexander, split a doubleheader with the Lincoln Saltdogs (56-36) on Monday night in front of 3,029 fans at Newman Outdoor Field. Alexander and the RedHawks shutout the Saltdogs 7-0 in Game 1, while the Saltdogs broke open a tight game with five runs in the sixth inning to win the nightcap 7-1.

In Game 1, the RedHawks jumped to a 2-0 lead after two innings and cruised behind Alexander. The RedHawks starter allowed just four hits while striking out ten batters in 7.0 innings. His ninth strikeout, Joe Robbins, was his 158th of the season and set both the American Association and franchise record. The previous record of 157 strikeouts in a season was set by former RedHawks LHP Brandon Mann in 2015.

Devan Ahart was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs to pace the RedHawks. K.D. Kang and Keury De La Cruz both hit solo home runs, and Brandon Tierney was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Alexander (7-6) picked up the win and lowered his league-leading ERA to 2.13. Brian Smith (3-12), making his Saltdogs debut after pitching for the Salina Stockade all summer, took the complete game loss.

In Game 2, Lincoln starting pitcher Shairon Martis (4-1) shut down the red-hot RedHawks bats. He pitched 6.0 innings and allowed just one run on two hits. He struck out six batters and walked three. Benji Waite (4-7) took the loss for Fargo-Moorhead, as he allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits in 5.1 innings pitched. Waite struck out six batters and walked one.

Nathaniel Maggio was the hitting hero for Lincoln, as he was 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and an RBI ground out. Christian Ibarra scored a pair of runs for the Saltdogs, while Cesar Valera was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

The RedHawks split, combined with losses by both the Kansas City T-Bones and the Gary SouthShore RailCats, means Fargo-Moorhead now has a 1.0 lead over both clubs in the American Association Wild Card race. The RedHawks have eight games remaining in the season.

The RedHawks and Saltdogs continue their five-game series on Tuesday night at 7:02 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo. Fans can purchase tickets at www.fmredhawks.com, by calling 701-235-6161 or at the stadium box office.
