
RedHawks Sign Two; Taylor Purchased by Mets

FARGO, ND - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have signed OF Kes Carter and LHP Mike Mason and sold the contract of OF Kevin Taylor to the New York Mets organization. Taylor becomes the 66th RedHawks player to move on to a Major League organization.
Carter, 25, is a former first round pick (2011, 56th overall) of the Tampa Bay Rays. He appeared in 15 games for the Montgomery Biscuits of the Southern League in 2015 and batted .200 with two doubles, one triple, two RBIs and three runs scored.
Carter spent five seasons in the Rays organization after being drafted out of Western Kentucky University. In his career, he has batted .235 with 50 doubles, 18 triples, 14 home runs, 100 RBIs and 129 runs scored in 297 games.
Mason, 25, appeared in ten games (three starts) for the RedHawks in 2015 before being shut down due to an injury. He was 2-2 with a 5.32 ERA in 23.2 innings pitched. Mason allowed 15 runs (14 earned) on 28 hits. He struck out 15 batters and walked 18.
Mason began his professional career in 2012 with the Colorado Rockies after being selected in the 24th round of that year's draft out of Marshall University (WV). In his professional career, Mason is 8-3 with a 4.88 ERA in 49 games. He has struck out 67 batters and walked 40 in 79.1 innings pitched.
Taylor, 24, was acquired from the Gary SouthShore RailCats earlier this month. He is coming off a stellar season with the Laredo Lemurs that was capped with the 2015 American Association championship. Taylor batted .327 with 24 doubles, one triple, 11 home runs, 54 RBIs and 69 runs scored in 98 games. He finished third in the American Association in both on-base percentage (.435) and walks (65). He was acquired by Gary following the end of the playoffs last fall.
Taylor began his professional career in 2011 after being selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 36th round of that year's draft out of Western Nevada College. He spent three seasons in the Dodgers chain before signing with the Traverse City (MI) Beach Bums of the Frontier League in 2014. In his career, Taylor has batted .277 with 50 doubles, four triples, 21 home run, 120 RBIs and 165 runs scored in 292 games.
