RedHawks Sign McCully; Release Three Pitchers

FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have signed RHP Nick McCully and released RHP Drew Bowlin, RHP Justin Erasmus and RHP Brad Orosey. McCully will make his RedHawks debut tonight when he gets the start against the Wichita Wingnuts at 7:02 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo.

McCully, 25, has spent the past four seasons in the Chicago White Sox organization and was pitching with the Birmingham Barons of the Southern League this season before he was released. He was 4-9 with a 5.79 ERA in 22 games (19 starts) for the Barons this summer. McCully pitched 96.1 innings and allowed 66 runs (62 earned) on 113 hits. He struck out 35 batter and walked 44.

In 2013, McCully split time between Birmingham and the Charlotte Knights of the Triple-A International League. He was 7-3 with a 3.08 ERA in 19 games (12 starts) for the Barons, and 2-3 with a 5.66 ERA in nine games (eight starts) for Charlotte.

McCully began his professional career in 2009 after being selected in the ninth round of the draft that summer by the St. Louis Cardinals organization. After two years in the Cardinals organization, he was signed by the White Sox in 2011. Over his career, McCully is 29-26 with a 4.44 ERA and eight saves in 144 games (60 starts). He has allowed 420 hits and struck out 307 batters in 451.2 innings pitched.

Bowlin was 2-4 with a 4.75 ERA in 17 games (eight starts) for Fargo-Moorhead this season. Erasmus was 2-2 with a 5.07 ERA in 25 games (two starts) this year, while Orosey was 0-0 with a 6.75 ERA in three games (two starts) for the RedHawks.
