Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
Fargo, N.D. - Returning home for the first time in the second half of the season, the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks dropped the Edmonton Cracker-Cats, 8-3, Monday night at Newman Outdoor Field in front of 2,851 fans. The RedHawks received 14 hits from its offense while three F-M pitchers combined to hold Edmonton to four hits.
After Kory Wayment supplied the game's first hit in the bottom of the first, Richard Austin smashed a two-run homer to right field to put the RedHawks ahead 2-0. The home run was Austin's ninth of the season.
With two out and Brian Munhall at second in the top of the second frame, Edmonton's Tim Ryan hit a routine groundball to F-M pitcher Mark Michael, but Michael threw high to first base allowing Ryan to reach safely. The overthrow allowed Munhall to score Edmonton's first run of the contest.
The RedHawks added three runs to their total in the bottom half of the second as Casey Haugen, Joe Mathis, and Wayment provided three straight RBI-singles in the inning to extend the F-M lead to 5-1.
With the help of an F-M error, Edmonton scored their second run of the contest in the top of the fifth. With two outs in the inning, Rob Recuenco hit a fly ball to right field that was dropped by Austin. After Ryan Radmanovich walked to push Recuenco to second, Terrence McClain knocked in Recuenco with a single to right-center.
Fargo-Moorhead posted a pair of runs in the seventh to increase their lead to 7-2. With two gone in the frame, Austin started a rally with a single and moved to third on a double by Ruben Salazar. Recently-signed Billy Munoz drove both runners in with his fourth hit of the night on a single to left.
Both squads pushed a run across in the eighth inning to bring the score to 8-3.
Michael earned his fourth win of the season as he threw five innings while allowing two runs, neither of which were earned, on two hits with eight strikeouts. Edmonton starter Dorian Castro was charged with the loss after giving up seven runs in 6.2 innings of work.
