RedHawks Re-Sign Stanton, Sign Kelley and Fletcher

FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks added three pitchers to the roster as the club re-signed RHP Taylor Stanton and signed RHP Ty Kelley and LHP Tyler Fletcher to contacts.

Stanton, 27, was 6-11 with a 4.90 ERA in 20 starts for the RedHawks in 2014, his second season with the club. In 117.2 innings pitched, Stanton allowed 80 runs (64 earned) on 142 hits. He struck out 77 batters and walked 33.

In 2013, Stanton was the American Association Pitcher of the Year after going 9-4 with a 2.43 ERA in 19 starts. He struck out 108 batters and allowed 115 hits in 126.0 innings pitched. He also won his only start in the playoffs after leading the RedHawks to their second consecutive North Division Championship.

Stanton began his professional career in 2008 after being selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 26th round of the draft that summer. He spent five seasons in the Mariners organization and was 48-43 with a 4.22 ERA in 164 games (114 starts). He pitched as high as Double-A in both 2011 and 2012.

Kelley, 26, was 2-3 with a 3.33 ERA in 39 games for New Jersey in 2014. In 54.0 innings pitched, he allowed 23 runs (20 earned) on 51 hits, struck out 48 batters and walked ten. He was acquired by the RedHawks via trade in early March.

2014 was Kelley's first season in the Can-Am League after pitching for four seasons in the Los Angeles Angels organization. He was signed as a non-drafted free agent out of Auburn (Ala.) University and was 12-4 with a 3.47 ERA and 23 saves in 118 games pitched. Kelley struck out 159 batters in 158.0 innings pitched in his four seasons in the Angels chain.

Fletcher, 23, pitched at the University of South Carolina-Sumter, a junior college, in 2011 and 2012. He was 10-6 with a 2.80 in 23 games pitched for the Fire Ants with 106 strikeouts in 119.0 innings pitched.

"All three guys we signed have the opportunity to be major contributors in 2015," said RedHawks Manager Doug Simunic. "Stanton is coming off a tough year but we think he will bounce back, and Kelley has been solid throughout his career. Fletcher has been trying out for organizations and we've gotten positive reports on him. He needs innings at the professional level and we hope he can be a solid lefty on our staff."
