
Redhawks pick up fourth straight in 7-2 win over Gary

*FARGO**, **N.D.** *- Fargo-Moorhead posted five runs in the first two innings on its way to a 7-2 victory over the Gary South Shore RailCats on Tuesday in front of 2,990 at Newman Outdoor Field. The win ensures that the RedHawks will continue their unbeaten series streak to open the 2006 season.
The RedHawks went up 2-0 in the first inning as Joe Mathis and Brent Krause led off with back-to-back singles. Both would later score in the inning thanks to another set of back-to-back singles by Eric Kofler and Jesse Hoorelbeke.
Gary responded with two runs in the top of the second two even the score but the RedHawks quickly regained their lead with a three-run second inning.
All of Fargo-Moorhead's runs in the third came with two outs and were all credited to Gary's starting pitcher, Neal Frendling. After retiring the first two batters in the inning, Frendling gave up five consecutive hits including a Joe Mathis home run, three singles and a double.
Richard Austin tacked on another RedHawks run in the bottom of the fourth as he pulled even with Kofler for the league lead in home runs, hitting his fourth of the season over the right field wall.
Fargo-Moorhead would add another run in the bottom of the eighth inning for a game-winning final of 7-2.
Mark Michael moved to 2-0 on the season with a 1.76 ERA while Brian Adams was able to enter the game in the eighth inning with the bases loaded and earn his third save of the year.
With the win the RedHawks improved to 9-3 on the season and remain in first place in the West Division. Frendling (0-1) took the loss as the RailCats fell to 3-9.
Brandon Goltz (1-0, 6.00) is slated to take the mound for the RedHawks in Game 3 of the current four-game set and will face the RailCats' Willie Glen (2-1, 4.80). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field.
