Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, N.D. - The Winnipeg Goldeyes won game-one of this best-of-five series against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 7-3 Wednesday night at Newman Outdoor Field. Goldeyes starter RHP Bear Bay pitched 6.1 innings, gave-up two runs (all earned) and fanned three for the win.

Winnipeg DH Juan Diaz got the Goldeyes on the board in the first inning. Diaz fisted an in-on-the-hands pitch from RedHawks starter LHP Jeff Icenogle over the left-field wall for his first homerun of the post-season.

In the third, Goldeyes 1B Cody Ehlers flew a ball over the head of RedHawks RF Mike Coles for a leadoff double. The Goldeyes benefited from a defensive miscue by RedHawks 3B Jeremiah Piepkorn. 2B Josh Asanovich doubled CF Cory Patton home to give the Goldeyes a 3-0 lead.

2B Carlo Cota cracked a solo homerun to get the RedHawks on the board in the third. In the fourth, Piepkorn put a charge into a 1-2 offering from Bay for the RedHawks second solo shot of the game to make it 3-2.

In the seventh, Patton and Diaz teamed-up for a pair of singles. With men at the first and third, the Goldeyes benefited from a booted ball and a wild pitch before RF Kevin West hit a two-run homerun to give the Goldeyes a five-run cushion.

The RedHawks benefited from a passed ball in the eighth to make it 7-3, but could not overcome the four-run deficit.

The RedHawks and Goldeyes finish the Fargo leg of this best-of-five series tomorrow at Newman Outdoor Field. The RedHawks will send RHP Garry Bakker to the mound. LHP Bill Pulsipher will get the ball for the Goldeyes. Game time is 6:00 p.m.
