ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Memphis Redbirds (63-77) plated runs in the eighth and ninth innings, but it was not enough to complete a comeback against the Round Rock Express (Triple-A Rangers) Saturday night in Round Rock.

Memphis fell behind 3-0 after the bottom of the first, with the Express touching Matt Pearce, who was making his second start at Triple-A. But Pearce settled in after that and threw 5.0 shutout innings to finish his outing.

Round Rock added another run in the seventh off Ryan Sherriff, and a Jose Martinez RBI double in the eighth and a David Washington home run in the ninth accounted for the Redbird runs on the night.

Washington's homer was his 25th with Memphis, which ranks 11th in a single season in Redbirds history, and 30th of the season overall between Double-A Springfield and Memphis, which was tied for sixth in all of minor league baseball entering the night.

One day after seeing his second 11-game hitting streak of the season snapped, Efren Navarro was 3-for-4. Breyvic Valera was 2-for-4 with a run and a walk.

The Redbirds' 2016 season concludes with two more games at Round Rock, before AutoZone Park hosts the Gildan Triple-A National Championship Game on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
