Rochester Red Wings News Release
GAME NOTES:
-TURNING POINT: Red Wings starter Kyle Gibson tossed 6.2 scoreless innings for the first time in almost 3 years helping the Wings to their 4th straight victory on Saturday over the Buffalo Bisons at Frontier Field. Making Gibson's performance even more impressive was the fact he faced the International League's top offense which came in hitting .319 on the season... KEY MOMENT: Eric Farris lifted a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 5th inning to plate Evan Bigley who doubled to leadoff the inning for the only Wings run of the day.
-Gibson, along with relievers Caleb Thielbar and Tim Wood, limited the Bisons to just 4 baserunners (2 hits & 2 walks); however none reached as far as second base as 2 double plays helped the Wings face just 2 over the minimum... The trio struck out 11 against the hardest team to strike out in the IL .
-Evan Bigley went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored to raise his average to .345 in 10 games with the Wings this season since his promotion from New Britain (AA) on April 17.
-C Chris Herrmann had his 5-game hit streak snapped after going 0-for-4... 5 Red Wings have now had a 5-game hitting streak this season however all have failed to extend it to 6 games... During the streak Herrmann hit .375 (9-for-24) with 2 doubles, 5 runs and 6 RBI
-The Red Wings have now won 4 games in a row for the first time since a 7-game streak, 7/29-8/5/12.
-Tim Wood made his 4th rehab appearance on Saturday and earned his first save with the Wings by tossing a 1-2-3 9th inning. Opposing hitters are just 1-for-16 against Wood in his 5.0 innings pitched this season with Rochester
-The Red Wings recorded their 2nd shutout of the season on Saturday and first 1-0 win since July 8, 2012 vs. Lehigh Valley... Last season the Wings posted 10 shutouts... Saturday marked the first time this season the Bisons were blanked.
-The last time Rochester beat Buffalo, 1-0, was July 3, 2010 in Buffalo in front of 17,527 fans at Coca-Cola Field. In that game, Glen Perkins (6.2 ip, 0 r) outdueled Ramon Ortiz (6.1 ip, 1 r)
