LET'S PLAY TWO: The Red Wings and Scranton/WB RailRiders open a 3-game, 2-day series tonight at PNC Field in Moosic, PA with a doubleheader beginning at 5:35 p.m. Both games will be 7-inning contests. The Red Wings wrapped up a 7-game, 6-day homestand on Wednesday with a 6-2 setback to Buffalo. Still, the Wings went 4-3 on the homestand and have won 9 of their last 12 games to move just 3.0 games back of Syracuse in the IL North . Rochester still maintains a 3.5-game lead in the Wild Card standings over Columbus. The RailRiders - who split a doubleheader yesterday against Charlotte - have lost 8 of their last 11 to fall into last place in the IL North (12.5 GB).

- Since losing 8 straight on the road May 5-12, the Wings are 14-9 over their last 23 road games.

TAKING TWINBILLS: The Red Wings swept their 4th doubleheader of the season on Sunday against Buffalo and are now an IL-best 10-2 in twinbill games this season. No other team in the IL has more than 6 wins in doubleheader games (SWB, 6-8). The last time Rochester swept 4 doubleheaders in the same season was 2007 (they also swept 4 in 2006). The Wings swept their first doubleheader this season vs. SWB on April 8 at Frontier Field. Prior to April 8, the last Wings twinbill sweep was May 5, 2012 vs. BUF. From 2009-2013, the Wings swept a total of 4 doubleheaders .

- Last season, the Wings were an IL-worst 3-7 (.300) in doubleheader games.

DERAILING THE RIDERS: The Wings are 7-1 against the RailRiders this season, sweeping a 3-game set in Rochester (April 7-9) and a rain-shortened one-game series at SWB (June 24), while taking 3 of 4 at PNC Field (May 22-25) -- the first four-game series win by Rochester over Scranton in Scranton since 1991 (June 28-30) . The Wings are outscoring SWB 40-22 and are hitting .299 as a team in 8 games against the RailRiders this season, while limiting the IL's top hitting club to a .222 average. Going back to last season, the Wings have now won 10 of the last 11 games between the two clubs . Prior to this 11-game stretch, the Wings were just 29-64 against the Yankees top affiliate over the previous 5 1/2 seasons.

-Eric Farris is hitting 9-for-25 (.360) with a double and 3 RBI in 8 games against SWB this season.

-Doug Bernier is 7-for-17 (.412) with 4 RBI in 7 games against his former team this year.

DOUBLE DUDES: The Wings have recorded at least 2 doubles in 13 of their last 14 games -- collecting 43 doubles over that span . Over their last 30 games, the Wings have hit 82 doubles to move into 1st in the IL with 198 two-baggers on the season -- 18 more than any other team in the league. 3B Deibinson Romero leads Rochester and is tied for the IL lead with 25 doubles on the year. Romero is on pace to be the first Red Wing to collect 30 doubles in a season since David Winfree in 2009. The Wings rank T-5th in triples with 19 and 9th in home runs with 61.

- The Wings have collected at least one extra-base hit in 50 consecutive games...2013 high was 45 straight w/ XBH.

KEEPING IT CLOSE: The Wings' four-run loss on Wednesday against Buffalo was their first loss by more than two runs since June 21 (2) at BUF -- Rochester's previous 6 losses had come by a combined 7 runs. In fact, since June 1, the Wings have now lost just 4 games by more than 3 runs . The Red Wings are an IL-best 26-13 (.667) in games decided by more than 3 runs this season.

GIVING UP THE LONG BALL: Since June 1, Wings starters have surrendered 31 home runs in just 40 games after allowing only 13 HR over the first 54 games of the season. Meanwhile, the bullpen has allowed just 8 HR over the last 40 games after yielding 16 in the first two months of the season.

- After allowing a career-high 3 HR on Wednesday vs. BUF, Logan Darnell has now allowed a team-high 11 HR.

JOHNSON TO BE PROMOTED: Red Wings southpaw Kris Johnson will be promoted to the Twins on Friday to take Ricky Nolasco's spot in the Twins rotation. Johnson was 8-4 with a 2.75 ERA in 16 starts with the Wings this season -- including 2 complete games. His 2.75 ERA is 6th-best in the IL, while his .214 BAA ranks 4th in the league.

IN CONTROL: The Red Wings bullpen has allowed just one walk over their last 27.1 innings -- spanning the last 8 games (7/3- ). The only walk surrendered during this stretch was yielded by Edgar Ibarra in the 11th inning on July 5.

MOVING MONTH: Despite Wednesday's loss, the Wings have started the month of July going an IL-best 7-3 in their first 10 games. Last season, the Wings went 20-8 in July -- just the 6th, 20-win month for Rochester since 1980. In the Gene Glynn era, the Red Wings are now 45-22 (.672) in the month of July . Historically, July has been the best month for the Wings. Since 1980, July is the only month (excluding September) in which the Wings have a winning record (519-494).
