Red Wings' Escobar Tabbed IL Player of the Week

(Rochester, NY ) - Rochester Red Wings infielder Eduardo Escobar was named the International League's Player of the Week for the period of August 26-September 2, the league announced on Tuesday. Over the final eight games of the season, Escobar hit .400 (12-30) with eight extra-base hits - including three home runs - and nine RBI.

Escobar led the IL with 12 hits, three home runs, nine RBI, seven runs scored, and a .867 slugging percentage over the season's final week. His best game came on the season's final day, with the Red Wings needing a victory to claim the IL's Wild Card. Escobar pounded out four extra base hits - including three doubles and a home run - and drove in a career-best five runs to lead Rochester to a 13-3 win over Scranton/WB, giving the team its first playoff appearance since 2006.

Rochester brought home five Player of the Week awards this season, as Escobar joins previous winners Chris Colabello (April 4-7, May 13-19), Vance Worley (June 17-23), and Pat Dean (August 5-11).

Escobar and the Red Wings open their best-of-five playoff series on Wednesday night at Frontier Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. The Red Wings will also host Game Two on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. before the series shifts to McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, RI for the final three games.
