Chicago Stars FC News Release
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. - The Chicago Red Stars open the final regular season homestand of their inaugural campaign Sunday with a 3 pm game against Abby Wambach and the Washington Freedom at TOYOTA PARK.
Sunday's match is the fourth meeting of the season between the franchises, with Chicago holding a 1-0-2 advantage. The Red Stars scored a pair of second half goals in a 2-1 win over the Freedom on July 1, becoming the first team in WPS history to come from behind and win a game.
Chicago has won its previous two home games. The Red Stars sit five points out of a WPS playoff spot with three games remaining in their season.
The Red Stars will wear special green jerseys Sunday for their "Green Game." The jerseys will be auctioned off to help raise awareness of perils that face the planet. GreenLaces, a nonprofit environmental organization founded by Red Stars defender Natalie Spilger, will be on hand to educate fans about the importance of environmental responsibility.
Popular Chicago musical group Hello Dave will be performing a pre-game concert, beginning at 2 pm in the Red Stars Fun Zone. For more information, log on to www.chicagoredstars.com or call 866-WPS-2009.
