AUSTIN, TX (Mar. 30, 2013) - In the Red Stars final day of a preseason trip to Austin, Texas, the team defeated the Houston Aces of WPSL Elite 2-1 on a beautiful, sunny evening on St. Edward's campus. It took until the second half for the Red Stars to get on the board, in spite of heavy first half pressure and a multitude of shots on goal.

The deadlock was finally broke in the 58th minute when 2nd half substitute Julianne Sitch put a well-placed through-ball on the ground for a streaking Lori Chalupny who beat the keeper to put the Red Stars up 1-0. Five minutes later defender Jackie Santacaterina got herself to the endline and put a cross in that found Ella Masar who placed it off the crossbar. Chalupny was there on the ensuing deflection and blasted it into the net for her second of the match and a 2-0 Red Stars advantage.

With the Red Stars continued pressure, it looked like they would hold a shutout, but the Houston Aces were able to sneak a goal in the 90th minute in spite of goalkeeper Taylor Vancil getting a hand on the initial shot. Final score for the evening would end 2-1 in the Red Stars favor.

The Red Stars have two preseason matches remaining, the first against Notre Dame on Wednesday, April 3, 7pm ET in South Bend, Indiana. The final is on Sunday, April 7, at 5pm CT against Illinois State and will take place at the Red Stars training grounds in Oak Brook, Illinois (700 Oak Brook Rd, Oak Brook, IL). Chicago Lineup: GK Taylor Vancil, Michelle Wenino (Lydia Vandenbergh 46'), Jackie Santacaterina, Taryn Hemmings, Rachel Quon, Zakiya Bywaters (Julianne Sitch 46'), Lori Chalupny, Leslie Osborne, Alyssa Mautz (Maureen Smunt 80'), Ella Masar (Lauren Fowlkes 65'), Jessica McDonald (Hanna Gilmore 65').
