Flash Defeats OSU 4-0

Elma, N.Y. (Saturday, March 30, 2013) - The Western New York Flash defeated Ohio State University 4-0 in their third preseason match Saturday afternoon in front of a sold-out crowd at Sahlen Sports Park in Elma. The Flash have dominated during preseason, outscoring their opponents 14-0 in three matches. WNY were playing without USNT players Abby Wambach, Adrianna Franch, and Canadian Jodi-Ann Robinson who were all away on NT duty as well as Carli Lloyd who is still out injured. After a scoreless forty minutes and the Flash continuously pressing, Australian International Samantha Kerr scored the Flash's first goal in the 42nd minute of the game. The Australian native headed the ball into the net off a free kick from Mexican International Veronica Perez.

The Flash scored again just three minutes later, doubling their lead to 2-0 at the half. Perez picked up her second assist of the game, helping Adriana score the first of her two goals.

The Flash stayed strong in the second half, dominating most of possession and creating multiple scoring chances. Perez capped off a solid performance with a goal in the 69th minute off a pass from Adriana. The Mexican, with two players on her back, was able to turn and slot the ball past the Buckeyes goalkeeper. Perez finished the night with two assists and a goal.

Adriana scored her second and the team's fourth goal of the game in the 74th minute, securing the 4-0 win against Ohio State.

Defensively, Bryanna McCarthy, Alex Sahlen, Estelle Johnson and Brittany Taylor helped the team post their third consecutive shutout of the preseason. The four defenders helped shut down any danger Ohio State threatened the Flash with.
