Pawtucket Red Sox News Release

Boston Police Officer Steve Horgan, who became famous for raising his arms in jubilation just as David Ortiz' dramatic grand slam homerun in Game 2 of last year's ALCS landed in the Red Sox bullpen, will be a special guest on Opening Night at McCoy Stadium next Thursday, April 3. The PawSox will be hosting the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at 7:05 pm at McCoy and Officer Horgan will throw out a ceremonial 1st ball and be available for photos and autographs with fans during the game.

The iconic image of Officer Horgan with his arms in the air, at the exact time Detroit RF Tori Hunter had his legs in the air while falling over the bullpen wall, will forever be a lasting symbol of Boston's World Series Championship run.

Horgan, who has been with the Boston Police Department for 28 years, was assigned to the Red Sox bullpen last season. He immediately became a celebrity after video and photos of his celebration went viral. "Officer Horgan" was a popular costume for Halloween, the real Officer Horgan rode in a Duck Boat with John Henry and other members of Red Sox ownership during the championship parade, he had his beard shaved for charity by Big Papi and Shane Victorino, and Steve also appeared on numerous national television shows and radio interviews among many other things.

"I am honored to be with the PawSox on their Opening Night as myself and my entire family have been avid Red Sox fans our whole lives," said Officer Horgan. "We love the PawSox...they are our second favorite team," he added with a laugh.

As part of Opening Night festivities the PawSox will once again honor the Police and Fire Departments and First Responders from throughout Southern New England. Tickets for Opening Night on April 3rd at 7:05 pm still remain available at www.pawsox.com, by calling 401-724-7300, or visiting the PawSox Box Office at McCoy.
