
Red Bulls Open the 2022 MLS Season out West against San Jose Earthquakes

HARRISON, N.J. -The New York Red Bulls will open the 2022 MLS season against the San Jose Earthquakes at PayPal Park on Saturday, February 26. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. ET with coverage on MSG, MSG GO, and New York Red Bulls Radio in English and Spanish via TuneIn, the New York Red Bulls app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.
Coverage on MSG begins at 5:30 p.m. ET with the Red Bulls Pregame show. Jonathan Yardley will have the primary play-by-play responsibilities and will be alongside Shep Messing and Michelle Gingras.
New York Red Bulls Radio begins at 5 p.m. ET with Countdown to Kickoff, presented by Honda, hosted by Matt Harmon and Steve Jolley. Stefano Fusaro will carry the Spanish play-by-play responsibilities, beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET.
The Red Bulls open the 27th MLS regular season in their second year under Head Coach Gerhard Struber. New York finished the 2021 season on a 7-1-4 mark and earned 25 of their 48 points in their last 12 games, leading them to their 12th consecutive and 22nd overall postseason appearance. The Red Bulls are 10-10-6 all-time in season openers and 3-7-5 when opening the season away. New York are unbeaten in their last three season openers away.
New York and San Jose will take the pitch for the 41st time in the regular season and the first time since 2019. San Jose has the edge in the series with a 17-14-9 mark, but the Red Bulls have won four out of the last five meetings. The last time the two teams battled each other, the Red Bulls won 4-1 at Red Bull Arena on March 16, 2019. This will be only the second time in franchise history that New York opens the season against San Jose, the first time being in 1997.
Following Saturday's season opener, New York will battle Toronto FC on Saturday, March 5, at BMO Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET on MSG, MSG GO, and New York Red Bulls Radio in English and Spanish via TuneIn, the New York Red Bulls app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.
