Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release
Chivas USA Notes (1-0 loss vs. Colorado Rapids, The Home Depot Center, Carson, CA, 3/26/2010)
- Chivas USA fell by a 1-0 score to the Colorado Rapids on Friday night at The Home Depot Center in the team's first match of the 2010 MLS season. Omar Cummings scored the game's only goal in the 55th minute in front of a boisterous crowd of 18,658.
- In a relatively even game, the Red-and-White had a 12-7 advantage in shots, but failed to break through the Rapids defense. After Colorado's goal, Chivas USA held almost all the possession and had several opportunities, but goalkeeper Matt Pickens and the Rapids defense held firm to earn the shutout.
- Two players made their debut for the Red-and-White, as Salvadoran midfielder Osael Romero and Costa Rican defender Michael Umaña both played 90 minutes. Dan Kennedy earned the start in goal for Chivas USA over veteran Zach Thornton, who has only recently recovered from a thigh strain.
- Chivas USA will now turn its attention to next Thursday's Honda Super Clásico against the LA Galaxy, one of two regular-season Clásicos between the two teams in 2010. The Red-and-White will be the away team for the match, and all credentialing and ticking will be run by the Galaxy.
- Chivas USA Head Coach MartÃn Vásquez, on tonight's match: "Colorado came in looking for a point, and ended up getting the three points. Our objective is to go far. It's the first game so we have to analyze and be objective." A full series of quotes from Vásquez are available on Dentro del Rebaño ('Inside the Flock'), the official blog of Chivas USA.
- The Red-and-White will return to the training field on Monday, practicing at 10:00 a.m. on Field 6 at The Home Depot Center. The team will also train Tuesday and Wednesday ahead of Thursday night's Honda Super Clásico.
- Next home game: After playing an 'away' game vs. the LA Galaxy, Chivas USA will host the New York Red Bulls on Saturday, April 10 at 1:00 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center. For more information, or to purchase tickets, please call 1-877-CHIVAS-1 or visit cdchivasusa.com.
