Brockton Rox News Release

Richmond Hill, Ontario - Brockton Rox infielder *Melvin Falu* was selected as the Can-Am League Batter of the Week on Monday by PointStreak, the official league statistician.

In seven games during the week, the Carolina, P.R. native hit at a .520 clip (13-for-25), including a homer, five RBI and six runs scored. The dinger he smacked on August 19 vs. New Jersey was the 19th of his season, which leads the league. It also tied Falu for the single-season club record set last year by *Palmer Karr*.

Falu, 29, had a huge night on Friday in the doubleheader against Quebec, going a combined 5-for-6. He is currently two RBI shy of tying the franchise record and is also ten hits shy of tying the club record. Both records are held by *Jake Daubert*. Falu is already the franchise leader in home runs with 39.

The former St. Louis Cardinals' farmhand is tied for sixth in the league currently with his .317 batting average and is third with 64 RBI. He also has a chance to surpass the Rox single-season record in RBI set by *Jud Thigpen* in 2008 with 70.

Falu was a 28th round draft pick of the Cardinals in the 2002 draft. After spending two seasons in the St. Louis minor league system, Melvin signed in the Atlantic League and played with the Pennsylvania Road Warriors and Newark Bears.

Falu signed with the Shreveport Sports (AMAS) in 2006, and hit .301 in 76 games. He began the 2007 season with the Sports before the Rox acquired him via trade on July 2, 2007.
