Falu, Cate Earn Player Of The Week Honors

DURHAM, NC - The Can-Am League announced today that Brockton INF Melvin Falu and Quebec LHP Troy Cate have been named the Pointstreak Batter and Pitcher of the Week. The selection was made by Pointstreak, the official statistician of the Can-Am League.
Falu tallied thirteen hits (13-for-25) and drove in five runs over his last seven games. He also showed his ability to hit for power with a homer and five doubles. After earning recognition as a Can-Am Post-season All-Star and All-Independent League selection in 2009, Falu is having another solid season for the Rox. He's batting .317 overall with 19 homers and 64 RBI. Originally drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals organization in 2002, Falu has hit over .300 in six of the past seven seasons.
Troy Cate has added depth to a successful pitching staff in Quebec and in his last two starts allowed just one earned run in 14 innings pitched. He earned the win in the Capitales 5-1 triumph over Pittsfield on August 17th and received no decision in an August 22nd start versus Brockton. In those games he allowed just eight hits while striking out seven. A former big-leaguer with the Cardinals, Cate finished 13-5 last season while pitching for Long Island of the Atlantic League, racking up 84 strikeouts in 129 innings pitched. In ten appearance for Quebec this season his record stands at 4-3 with a 3.38 ERA.
