Brockton Rox News Release

BROCKTON - The Brockton Rox (21-8) failed to capitalize on a solid start from Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd, losing 3-1 in 10 innings to the North Shore Spirit (19-11) in front of a record 6,223 fans.

Boyd pitched seven shutout innings of three-hit baseball. "Oil Can" struck out one and departed the game with a one-run lead.

In the sixth inning, Brad Rosenblatt got on base with a two-out double. Brian Jones followed with a single to put the Rox ahead, 1-0.

Eddie Aucoin replaced Boyd in the eighth inning. Aucoin held the lead, giving up only a single hit to Marcos Agramonte.

Rox manager Ed Nottle turned the ball over to Joey Cole for the ninth inning. Cole allowed Rob Fischer to single and walked Vic Davilla, before getting Travis Oglesby to ground out for the first out. After Cole intentionally walked Alex Trezza, Brian Macchi hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Fischer, to tie the game, 1-1.

The Spirit took their first lead of the game in the 10th inning. Agramonte led off with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Agramonte scored on an infield single by Josh Tranum. Tranum moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Garrett Weir and to third on Cole's second wild pitch. A sacrifice fly by Fischer scored Tranum and put the Spirit ahead 3-1.

Ryan McCally (3-2) pitched the ninth inning and picked up the win for the Spirit. Cole (5-4) took the loss. Alex Herrera picked up his eighth save of the season.
