Calgary Hitmen News Release
Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen broke three franchise records Friday night in a 7-2 home ice win over the Red Deer Rebels.
The Hitmen set a new mark for most home ice wins in a single season with 31, most wins by a Hitmen goaltender in a season at 40 by Martin Jones and fastest three goals in a single game scoring three times in 55 seconds.
The scoring outburst was part of a monster first period which saw Calgary build a 5-0 lead after twenty minutes.
The line of Brandon Kozun (1g 3a), Joel Broda (1g 3a) and Bostjan Golicic (1g 1a) combined for 10 points as Kozun hit the 100 point mark. He becomes the first Hitmen to collect 100 points in a single season since Jordan Krestanovich in 2000/01.
Brett Sonne (43, 44) with a pair of goals, Michael Stone (17) and Keith Seabrook (14) also scored for the Hitmen who ran their winning streak to 10 games.
Jones made 26 saves in his record breaking performance. His 40 wins is one more than the 39 by Alexandre Fomitchev in the 1998/99 season.
Calgary leads the Western Hockey League Standings with a record of 53-7-3-1. They sit 10 points ahead of the Vancouver Giants for first place overall.
The Hitmen will return to action tomorrow night in Red Deer for the rematch with the Rebels. Next Hitmen home game is Wednesday, February 25th against Canadian World Juniors Jordan Eberle, Colton Teubert and the Regina Pats. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at the Pengrowth Saddledome.
