
Record 8 Jets Selected at 2017 USHL Draft

JANESVILLE, WI - With the 14th overall selection in the United States Hockey League's (USHL) Phase II Draft Tuesday morning, the Chicago Steel selected Janesville Jets goaltender Derek Schaedig, beginning a banner day for the Jets organization. In all, a record eight active players from the 2016-17 Jets were selected, in addition to two other players with Jets ties.
At 14th overall, Schaedig's selection also breaks a record for the highest Jet selected at the USHL Draft. Shortly after, the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders selected defenseman Chase Blackmun with the first pick of the second round (17th overall). With the next pick, the Tri-City Storm grabbed forward Michael Maloney (18th), and then goaltender Jake Barczewski (34th) in the third round. Later in the third, the Waterloo Blackhawks scooped up forward Ian Malcolmson (43rd), followed shortly after by the Sioux City Musketeers selecting defenseman Colin Felix (48th). When the Madison Capitols picked forward Joey Abate (59th) in the middle of the fourth round, it marked seven Jets in the top 59 picks. The Capitols dipped back into the Jets pool with defenseman Alec Semandel (184th overall).
Additionally, the Muskegon Lumberjacks selected Jets tender Sam Renlund (Omaha AAA) at 143rd, and Jets affiliate player Logan Ommen (Chicago Young Americans 18U) went 394th to the Lincoln Stars. Ommen played in three games with the Jets to close the regular season, scoring a goal and adding an assist.
The eight active players combine for 334 total games played with the Jets.
