Receivers Steve Gonzalez And Rob Mager To Battle It Out

When the Manchester Wolves (5-6) take on the Louisville Fire (6-5) Friday night on Brady Sullivan Field, fans are surely in store for not only a great divisional clash between two teams fighting for a playoff birth but that of a great individual match up between two of arenafootball2's best wide receivers in Manchester's Steve Gonzalez and Louisville's Rob Mager.
The two second-year receivers are currently battling it out for the right to be called the league's best receiver in six different af2 league categories where they sit either #1 or #2 in the rankings.
Here's the tale of the tape:
Scoring: Gonzalez - 21.3 pts/game, Mager 20.7 pts/game
Scoring TDs: Gonzalez - 38, Mager - 38
Receptions/Game: Mager - 13.3, Gonzalez - 11.3
Receiving Yards: Mager - 1,410, Gonzalez - 1,150
Receptions: Mager - 106, Gonzalez - 102
Receiving TDs: Mager - 38, Gonzalez - 37
Manchester won the only match up against the Fire this year back on April 14, with a 39-34 victory in Louisville, KY, and hold the series lead 3-2. Defense proved to outshine offense in their last battle as both star receivers were limited to season low marks in both receptions and yards, as Mager (6'2, 200) hauled in just five receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown, while Gonzalez (6'0, 180) tallied just four receptions for 63 yards.
"It was just the second game of the season for both squads, and quite a lot has changed since then," said Wolves Head Coach Ben Bennett. "It's Ironic that two of the hottest offenses are facing each other this Friday night along with two quarterbacks that have been performing extremely well as of late. Mixed in with all of that is the Mager versus Gonzalez competition, it should be quite a battle."
The Wolves will take on the Fire in a huge divisional match up this Friday on Brady Sullivan at the Verizon Wireless Arena at 8:00 p.m. Every fan through the door that night will receive a FREE Citizens Bank "Not Your Typical Team Photo". Fans will also be treated to a special halftime performance from Recycled Percussion!
