SANDY, Utah - Real Salt Lake controlled its annual Pioneer Day contest against "Class of 2005" expansion mate Chivas USA this evening, but a second half lead for the home side would be short lived as the Western Conference rivals settled for a 1-1 draw in front of a sellout crowd of 19,469 at Rio Tinto Stadium.

After pressing the issue for most of the first hour, Real Salt Lake (9-4-4, 31 pts.) would take the lead in the 66th minute through MF Ned Grabavoy's fantastic volley from the edge of the area off a poorly cleared corner. However, the lead would last only four minutes, as MF Jesus Padilla made an instant impact off the bench for Chivas USA (4-9-3, 15 pts.), his dipping shot from distance crossing up and sneaking through the legs of RSL GK Nick Rimando.
