Real Salt Lake News Release
SANDY, Utah (Tuesday, March 4, 2014) - Real Salt Lake put its 2014-15 primary jerseys on sale on Tuesday night, opening up Rio Tinto Stadium's doors to over 900 RSL Season Ticket Holders for an exclusive jersey event as part of Major League Soccer's annual Jersey Week.
Fans were treated to a tour of Real Salt Lake's newly renovated locker room before moving to Rio Tinto Stadium's Budweiser Club, where they could buy the Claret-and-Cobalt's re-designed jersey and participate in a meet-and-greet with RSL midfielder Javier Morales and defenders Chris Wingert and Chris Schuler. The first 100 fans that purchased RSL's new primary jerseys on Tuesday received a special certificate signifying that they were one of the first to buy the club's 2014-15 jerseys.
The new uniform will be available to purchase for the general public starting on Wednesday at the Real Salt Lake Team Store at Rio Tinto Stadium.
Real Salt Lake's newly re-designed jersey will serve as the team's primary shirt for the 2014 and 2015 seasons. The primary jersey showcases the team's Claret-and-Cobalt colors, with the body of the shirt remaining the traditional Claret and the sleeves of the shirt colored Cobalt. A new infusion of gold was added into the kit this year, with a gold "crown bar" introduced across the chest and extended onto both sleeves.
At the heart of the jersey is the introduction of a three-dimensional lenticular RSL shield with visible crowns in the background. One star is vertically stacked above the shield to represent the team's 2009 MLS Cup championship.
RSL's crown is also featured on the nape of the jersey, above a narrower gold bar that runs across the back of the shirt. The neck tape on the inside of the jersey features RSL's club motto "The Team is the Star."
Along with marking the official unveiling of RSL's 2014-15 primary jerseys, Tuesday's event also commemorated Real Salt Lake's new jersey-front partnership with Utah company LifeVantage. RSL and LifeVantage (NASDAQ: LFVN) announced last October that they had partnered to form one of the largest jersey-front sponsorship deals in MLS history. The 2014 MLS season will mark the first year that the LifeVantage logo will appear on RSL's uniforms.
RSL's 2014 secondary kit will remain the same as it has for the last two years, with the addition of the LifeVantage logo.
Major League Soccer's exclusive supplier, adidas, has provided the club's uniforms since the inaugural season in 2005. The primary kit is composed of the latest technology in fabric to create the lightest soccer jersey available and features mesh material along the top of the jersey back and upper sleeves.
Real Salt Lake will debut its new primary jersey this Saturday in its MLS regular season opener at LA Galaxy. Saturday's match will kick off at 8:30 p.m. MT and will be broadcast live on ABC 4 and ESPN 700 AM. RSL will first wear its primary jerseys at home in the home opener against LA on March 22. Tickets to the home opener, 2014 RSL Season Tickets and 2014 single-game tickets are all now on sale at the Rio Tinto Stadium box office, over the phone at 801-727-2700 or online.
