Real Salt Lake Concacaf Champions League Preview

September 14, 2010 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Real Salt Lake News Release

SANDY, Utah (Tuesday, September 14, 2010) - Real Salt Lake will begin the most challenging stretch of its hectic late-season schedule - a run of six games in 18 days - tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 15, when the Utah side welcomes fellow MLS club Toronto FC to Sandy for Matchweek 3 of the CONCACAF Champions League group stage. Wednesday's 8:00 p.m. MT kickoff at Rio Tinto Stadium could go a long way in sorting out who might advance from the CCL's Group A, as both Real Salt Lake and Toronto FC and the group's two other foes - Mexico's Cruz Azul and Panamanian side Arabe Unido - all stand tied on three points from 1-1-0 records after their first two contests last month.

Tickets for Wednesday's pivotal CONCACAF Champions League contest in Sandy remain available and can be purchased online at www.RealSaltLake.com and www.RioTintoStadium.com, over the phone at 801-727-2700, and in person at the Rio Tinto Stadium Box Office beginning at 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.

Fans that can't make it to the match can follow it live on Fox Soccer Channel, and CONCACAF.com will also carry a live video feed of the match (registration required). Fans can also follow the action as it unfolds via RSL's official radio partners - ESPN 700 Sports (English), ESPN Deportes 1600-AM and Homero 106.1-FM (Spanish) - and the club's official Twitter feed, found at www.twitter.com/RealSaltLake.

This will mark the middle of three meetings in one month's time between the two sides, who fought to a 0-0 draw in MLS play at BMO Field on Aug. 28 and will meet again in CCL action (Matchweek 5) on Tuesday, Sept. 28. First half goals by DF Jamison Olave (14') and MF Andy Williams (42') helped propel Real Salt Lake to a 2-1 win over the "Reds" in their League meeting in Sandy back on May 1. Toronto FC could have a vastly different look on Wednesday evening under the direction of Interim Head Coach Nick Dasovic, who was put in charge of the Canadian club for the remainder of the season earlier today after the sacking of former sideline boss Preki and Director of Soccer Operations Mo Johnston.
