Real Monarchs News Release
HERRIMAN, Utah - Real Monarchs SLC (11-9-7, 40 points, 6 West) is set to play its first of three games away from home as it heads to face Tacoma Defiance on Tuesday, September 17 at Cheney Park. The midweek match is scheduled for an evening 8:00 p.m. MT kickoff and can be seen live on ESPN+.
Real Monarchs starts its road trip hot off the heels of a thrilling 5-1 victory over Portland Timbers 2 at Zions Bank Stadium. FW Douglas Martínez set the club record with a club-high four goals in a single match as he put away a first-half brace in the 22nd and 38th minute before doubling the scoring in the second half in the 66th and 83rd minute. FW Kyle Coffee finalized the win over T2 with his third professional goal after burying a shot at the near post. While Portland was able to pull back an equalizer after the first goal from Martínez, it wasn't enough to stop Real Monarchs from securing the three points at home.
Saturday's win over Portland moved Real Monarchs up to 6th in the Western Conference as it looks to end its fifth campaign in the USL Championship with its third playoff appearance. The Monarchs turns its head towards Tacoma where it will face Tacoma Defiance in search of a crucial road win. The last time the two sides met was in mid-July where Martínez found the first hattrick in club history in a 5-0 rout. Tacoma Defiance sits last in the Western Conference, searching for every point left to get above the playoff line.
