Real Monarchs News Release
HERIMMAN, Utah - Real Monarchs have signed Ecuadorian midfielder Josimar Quintero from RCD Espanyol in the Segunda Division of Spain's La Liga through the 2021 season. Quintero's signing is pending league and federation approval, as well as the approval of his P-1 Visa. The terms of the signing have not been disclosed.
"Josimar is another young, dynamic attacking player for the Monarchs roster. His combined experience and ability to cover ground in the midfield brings an industrial upgrade to the roster. We look forward to watching him develop and mature as a player with the Monarchs," Real Salt Lake Assistant General Manager Tony Beltran said.
Quintero, 23, joins Real Monarchs with an extensive resume that includes some of the largest clubs in Europe. The Ecuadorian midfielder spent his formative years at the historic La Masia, home to FC Barcelona's vaunted youth academy, before moving to Chelsea as a late teenager. While in England Quintero competed with the youth academy and the reserve team in the Premier Reserve League.
While with Chelsea, Quintero went on loan to clubs in both Russia and Spain. In 2017 he was loaned out to FC Rostov and part-way through the year he was loaned to Betis Deportivo Balompié where he competed with the reserves squad. The following season Quintero remained in Spain with Club Lleida Esportiu in the third tier of professional football where he racked up 18 appearances.
After six years Quintero was transferred to RCD Espanyol where he competed with Espanyol B and appeared in 10 matches.
