Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-As October begins, the Waterloo Black Hawks will set aside their white home jerseys in favor of a different color anticipated to bring an ovation from the Young Arena crowd: pink, for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The Hawks play their first October home game Saturday evening against the Fargo Force at 7:05 p.m. The pink sweaters will then make an encore appearance on Saturday, October 24th during a tilt with the Omaha Lancers before being auctioned after the matchup, with profits benefitting Beyond Pink TEAM. Local Great Clips locations are sponsoring Black Hawks Breast Cancer Awareness jerseys for the fourth consecutive season. Meanwhile Dr. Douglas Duven and the Breast Care Center have supported the team's awareness efforts for ten years since 2006.
"There aren't many people who don't have a friend, coworker, or relative who has been affected by breast cancer. What makes this effort special is that we all have a connection; we can all feel good about doing something to help local breast cancer patients," said Black Hawks Vice President of Sales and Marketing Joe Greene.
Beyond Pink TEAM is an organization serving cancer patients throughout the region. The "TEAM" acronym stands for Taking action-Educating-Advocating-Making a difference. The group provides financial assistance for women with breast cancer treatment expenses, including assisting with medical bills, home or rent payments, car payments, and groceries.
This season's Breast Cancer Awareness jerseys have a unique design. The original Black Hawks crest appears on the front, in the midst of an array of black, white, and pink swirls, with white and black bands on the sleeves and near belt level. Each player's number appears in white on the back and sleeves, with the player name in black across the shoulders.
In addition, a silent auction of Black Hawks memorabilia will be conducted during the October 3rd matchup. Party Town Outfitters will also have pink Black Hawks t-shirts on sale throughout October.
Tickets for each Breast Cancer Awareness night, as well as all 2015/16 regular season games, are currently available from the Domino's Black Hawks Box Office and through the online ordering page at waterlooblackhawks.com. For more information, call the box office at (319) 291-7680.
