Reading Fightin Phils News Release
The Reading Fightin Phils defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays) 2-0 in a rain shortened contest on Saturday. The game stopped and called official in the top of the eighth inning due to inclement weather. This was their third shutout of the season.
The Fightins' pitching staff hurled a seven innings of no-hit ball, but the Fisher Cats notched two in the top of the eighth inning. The game was suspended with two on and one out.
Four R-Phils pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts.
Simon Muzziotti, Jhailyn Ortiz and Jack Conley each had two hits. It's Ortiz's sixth-straight game with multiple hits, making him the first player to do so since Darick Hall did it in 2018.
The R-Phils started hot at the plate. Johan Rojas and Muzziotti lead off the bottom of the first inning with singles. Ortiz brough Rojas home on an RBI double.
Reading pushed another run across in the seventh inning. Conley and Jonathan Guzman each singled to lead off the inning. They both moved up on Hunter Markwardt's sacrifice bunt. Muzziotti walked to load the bases and Wendell Rijo followed with a walk of his own to force in a run. The Fightins led 2-0.
The Fisher Cats got two baserunners in the top of the seventh inning thanks to an error and a hit but the game was stopped and called official due to the weather.
Bubby Rossman made his first appearance for the R-Phils since making his MLB debut on Wednesday. He pitched three perfect frames and finished with six strikeouts.
Adam Leverett relieved Rossman in the fourth. He struck out two through two innings and didn't give up a run or a hit.
McKinley Moore pitched the next two innings. He didn't allow a runner to reach and struck out four.
Braden Zarbnisky started the top of the seventh inning. He got the first out of the inning on a strikeout and gave up two hits before the game ended due to the weather.
The Fightins will play at FirstEnergy Stadium next on July 17 at 5:15 PM.
