Reading Express Will Host Chicago Slaughter in Playoff Game

Reading, Pa. (June 13, 2011) - The Reading Express will host the Chicago Slaughter in a first-round IFL playoff game this Saturday, June 18, at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pa. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.

As Atlantic Division champions, the 8-6 Reading Express earned the third seed in the IFL's United Conference and the right to host a first-round playoff game. The Chicago Slaughter, which also finished the season 8-6, is the conference's sixth and final seed in the playoffs. The Slaughter finished third in a very strong Great Lakes Division, behind the 11-3 Green Bay Blizzard and the 9-5 Bloomington Extreme.

The Express and Slaughter met once in the regular-season, with the Slaughter narrowly winning 59-55 on March 5 in Chicago.

The Slaughter's ownership group includes former Chicago Bears great Jim McMahon. Their head coach is a former Bears DL Steve McMichael. McMahon and McMichael both had significant roles in the Bears' Super Bowl-winning 1985 season. The team also recently signed quarterback Juice Williams, a former standout at the University of Illinois in the Big Ten Conference.

$1 Parking: The Reading Express are also excited to announce that parking will cost $1 for this playoff game, thanks to the Reading Parking Authority.

Playoff Picture: In the IFL's United Conference, the 13-1 Sioux Falls Storm and the Blizzard receive a first-round bye, and will host the second-round on June 25. The sixth-seed Slaughter will travel to Reading for a June 18 first-round game. Meanwhile the fourth-seed Omaha Beef (9-5) host the fifth-seed Bloomington Extreme (9-5) this Saturday.

If the Express win this Saturday's game against the Chicago Slaughter, they will travel to Green Bay to play the Blizzard in the second-round.

The United Conference Championship game is slated for Saturday, July 9 at the home of the highest-seeded team. The IFL United Bowl championship game is set for Saturday, July 23, between the champions of the United Conference and Intense Conference.

The Reading Express are the 2011 IFL Atlantic Division Champions. The team currently has an 8-6 record this season, and has a guaranteed home game in the 2011 IFL Playoffs which is set for June 18, 2011.

The Reading Express are one of the most established franchises in indoor football. In five full seasons, the team has amassed an overall record of 64-20 with four playoff appearances, two conference titles and the 2009 AIFA National Championship. In 2011, Reading begins play as a new member of the Indoor Football League. The team plays on The Reading Hospital Medical Group Field at Sovereign Center in Reading, Pa.
