RDA Weekend Recap
March 17, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release
It was another road trip weekend for many of the Riverhounds Development Academy sides March 13-14, one filled with some key league wins and a little bit of hardware coming home.
ECNL sides picked up valuable points in Indiana and Ohio, while the 2008 East Boys came home with the trophy from their division at the Penn FC Spring Warm-Up tournament with matches played in Hummelstown, Pa.
The 08 East Boys won all four matches on the weekend, conceding just one goal in the process. Ian Natale was the top scorer for the Hounds with seven goals in four matches, including both in the 2-0 championship game win over Hershey. Rocco Hagan finished with three goals, scoring twice in the 4-1 semifinal win over another central PA. Club, Capital Area SA.
At the same time, that group took care of business out east; the ECNL girls were in the Indianapolis area for their second straight out-of-state league weekend. The 02/03 Girls were able to get results both days, starting with a 1-0 win over the Indiana Fire. Melissa Riggins scored the lone goal, assisted by Emily Kirkpatrick. The back line of Taylor Lloyd, Angelina King, Sydney Lindeman, and Gracie Stetson anchored a team defensive effort to get the shutout. The group nearly pulled off the same feat against FC Pride after an Izzy Laurita goal, but their Sunday hosts snagged a late equalizer in a 1-1 draw.
Four points also came home with the 05 Girls, who beat the Fire, 3-1, and drew with FC Pride, 0-0. Bella Vozar's header opened the scoring in the win, and Ava Boyd and Fiona Mahan locked up the points with strikes after halftime. Ashlyn Basinger and Ella Dinwiddie scored for the 04 Girls in a 2-1 win over Fire, as they split their two matches, while later, the 06 Girls got at Atleigh Ciprich goal to win 1-0 over FC Pride, and the 07 Girls got two from Sierra Dupre in a 2-0 win in the same matchup.
The ECNL boys, meanwhile, had a productive Saturday in Ohio against Pacesetter SC. Three sides, the 02/03, 05, and 06 Boys won by matching 3-1 scores, while the 08 Boys romped to a 10-0 win and the 04s won 6-1. Things got tougher, and lessons were learned the next day, as Ohio Premier took all the points from some top-level matchups that will serve the Hounds in the future.
