RDA Weekend Recap
March 10, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release
The return to ECNL play provided a challenging weekend for the Riverhounds Development Academy, with girls matches on the road at always-strong Tennessee clubs FC Alliance and Tennessee SC for the first weekend of March.
The club's older sides produced the weekend's best results, starting with the 2002/03 Girls squeaking out a 2-1 win over FC Alliance on Saturday. Tessa Dellarose and Jayden Sharpless put the RDA ahead 2-0 at halftime, but the hosts pulled one back and kept the pressure on, only to be turned away by the Hounds' defense.
The 02/03 side couldn't pull off a weekend sweep, as they again took the lead through a Sharpless free-kick against Tennessee SC, but this time it was the home team that came away with a 2-1 win despite an excellent effort by goalie Taylor Lloyd.
The 2004 Girls did net the victory over Tennessee SC on Sunday, and it was Mary Kate Lape's curling shot into the right corner of the net that secured all three points in the final minutes. Emma Van Meter notched the clean sheet with a strong game against an opponent who wasn't hesitant to push forward on the attack.
While the ECNL Girls were in Tennessee, the 2006 Boys were further East, having been accepted to play in the prestigious Jefferson Cup in Richmond, Va. The results didn't go the boys' way despite playing three competitive contests, as they fell by scores of 2-1 to North Carolina FC, 2-0 to Total Futbol Club (Md.), and 4-3 to Southwestern Youth (Va.). Johnny Krug sparked the attack with goals in both the opening and closing match.
Also, over the weekend was a resounding 8-0 victory for the 07 RDA II Boys over Cleveland Force in a Great Lakes Alliance match on Sunday, while the Pre-ECNL 11 Girls scored a 3-3 draw with the Force and a 1-0 win over Ohio Premier.
